Secondary & Vicarious Trauma
Secondary trauma and vicarious trauma can have similar symptoms, but the two experiences are defined differently. Both occur as a result of exposure to another person’s traumatic experience. Secondary trauma refers to trauma symptoms that occur after hearing or witnessing someone else’s trauma on one occasion, whereas vicarious trauma refers to trauma symptoms that develop over time in response to long-term exposure to many people’s pain. Secondary trauma symptoms tend to emerge quickly, whereas vicarious trauma develops over time.
This course will provide an insight into the psychological effects of working/listening to life stories and experiences of traumatised people or children and provide a range of strategies to look after your own (physical and mental) health and wellbeing. The second session joining link will be given to those who attend the first session only.
If you would like to know more then why not register to attend the course.
The course will be delivered online consisting of two half days, on consecutive days. You must be able to attend both sessions of the course.
